The 45th annual Annie Awards has announced the 2018 nominees with ‘Coco’ leading the pact.
The Hollywood animation ‘Coco’ topped the nominations list with 13, including best animated feature.
‘Coco’ is a colorful tale about a young Mexican boy’s adventures in the Land of the Dead.
It is also nominated for directing (Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina), music, writing (Molina and Matthew Aldrich), voice acting for its young star Anthony Gonzalez, character design, production design, as well as character animation and storyboarding.
The other nominees for best animated feature are ‘Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie’, ‘Cars 3’, ‘Despicable Me 3’ and ‘The Boss Baby’.
After ‘Coco’, the Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon’s ‘The Breadwinner’ comes with 10 nominees, including best animated feature – independent, directing for Nora Twomey, music by Mychael and Jeff Danna, voice acting bids for Saara Chaudry and Laara Sadiq, character design, production design, writing (Anita Doron) and editing.
The other best independent feature nominations are ‘In This Corner of the World’, ‘Loving Vincent’, ‘Napping Princess’ and ‘The Big Bad Fox & Other Tales’.
‘The Boss Baby’ with six, ‘Captain Underpants’ with three, ‘Trollhunters’ with six, ‘Disney Mickey Mouse’ with six, ‘Samurai Jack’ with four and ‘Olaf’s Frozen Adventure’ with three nominations are among the other hopeful titles.
A number of juried awards will be handed out at the Annie Awards ceremony next year as well.
The Annie Awards will be held on February 3, 2018, at Royce Hall on the campus of UCLA, the US.
